Founding Artists
The Artists' Collective (TAC) was initially founded on October 13, 1991 by Binnur Karaevli and Theresa Larkin as a response to the closure of Los Angeles Theatre Center (LATC), which had been a generous and protective home for a number of performance labs and theatre groups working at the historic bank building under the guiding mentorship of Artistic Director Bill Bushnell and Producer Diane White, among others.
A short while later, Shishir Kurup and Susan Rubin (and their respective theatre labs) joined our ranks.
TAC quickly grew into a large arts umbrella organization dedicated to supporting producing artists and emerging theatrical groups in their various stages of development.
The initial four founders continued to shepherd their labs into companies, with each artist emerging as a productive and unique professional in arts education as well as local, regional, national, and international theatre, performance art, television, and film.
